What Now? Life Between Your Graduate Degree and Your Dream Job: Help for new professionals and teachers of future professionals
Presenters: Rebecca Chambers and Sarah Schouten
An increasing number of students are completing graduate degrees and attempting to enter the workforce. The supply of new, highly qualified horn performers and teachers is considerably more than the amount of available positions in the United States. As long as students are in school pursuing graduate degrees they have a focus and achievable goals presented before them to complete the degree. What happens to these new masters and doctors of music when they graduate? How do they make a living? Pursue their dream? Stay active and involved in music? How do they continue to improve themselves and work towards their goals of full-time employment as horn players and teachers? How can current teachers help their graduate students prepare themselves for life post-graduation but pre-full time position? This presentation will provide multiple solutions to these questions and contain a question and answer session.
